Is it Possible for Teeth to get Discolored while Getting Braces or Invisalign?

After orthodontic treatment, teeth are straightened, and patients also report a more radiant and attractive smile. On the other hand, you risk having less-than-desirable orthodontic outcomes if you neglect to take good care of your braces. Teeth discoloration occurs when patients remove their Invisalign trays or orthodontic appliances rather than a fresh smile. Pekin general dentistry can help you remove any staining your teeth might have.

Brackets made of metal and ceramic require special attention.

Consumption of red wine, coffee, tea, and colas can cause discoloration and eventual yellowing of ceramic bracing and fixtures. Contrarily, this is not a problem for metal braces or cables. However, traditional braces with ceramic brackets do require maintenance. Furthermore, discoloration of the dental appliance could be caused by the elastic bands that attach the archwire to the brackets. White patches on teeth can be caused by plaque buildup around bracket borders. Demineralization can also be caused by the acid generated by plaque if it is not addressed. All forms of braces are susceptible to stains, to put it simply.

Concerns about discoloration caused by Invisalign treatment

If the patient does not take the necessary precautions, tooth discoloration might occur even when using Invisalign treatment aligners.

Undoubtedly, the removable orthodontic aligners separate the teeth from the mouth. Keep in mind that an aligner will not prevent water from getting in. Some drinks, like coffee, are dark and can stain teeth.

Aligners are susceptible to discoloration from foods and drinks with solid colors. Over time, these things can amplify the discoloration caused by the aligners. At first, aligners will have a yellowish tint, but with time, they will acquire a brownish hue due to extended contact with liquids like tea and coffee.

Dental attachment stains

Dental attachments, such as Invisalign ones, are fabricated from dental composite material, also used for cavity filling. It is an integral aspect of orthodontic procedures. No stains will show up on this material. Nevertheless, there are instances where attachments could get stained. The safest action is to keep these dental fittings out of dark drinks as much as possible.

Dental care professionals will remove the dirt that has gathered around the attachment if any surface stains occur. Additionally, if necessary, they can draw and polish these fixtures. Dentists try to avoid excessive cleaning because even a slight change in shape can render attachments ineffective for use with existing aligners.

Since dental fixtures are only in place briefly, discoloration is not a significant concern. It is a risk that patients undergoing nearly all orthodontic procedures are exposed to.
