Using Incontinence Products as Part of your Rehabilitation

Incontinence is an issue that has a massive impact on the lives of many different people. Many of us wrongly assume that only older people or those that are very unwell have bladder control problems and incontinence troubles, but this is not always the case. There is a wide range of people that suffer with incontinence, whether they have suffered a debilitating physical injury, are suffering with illness or disease, whether short-term or long-term. For many people, incontinence will become a big part of everyday life, whilst for others it might just be a problem to overcome during recovery. Incontinence products play a big part in rehabilitation and recovery in many cases.

The use of incontinence products should always be inserted into a rehabilitation plan with all parties satisfied that it is the correct approach. The medical staff and rehabilitation staff, carers and of course, the patient, should all be aware of the benefits and any limitations that incontinence products will have on the situation. This will depend on the very specific situation for each person, but there are some benefits that are always felt when using incontinence products.

Incontinence products can include a wide range of product types, such as incontinence pads, incontinence pants, bed protectors, as well as alarms and other alerts. All incontinence products are designed to aid the person using them to have a much more comfortable day or night, and to protect from the problems that incontinence can bring with it, such as lower levels of health, comfort, hygiene and general cleanliness.

Incontinence pads and incontinence pants offer great levels of absorption for people to wear throughout the day. There are different sizes, shapes and levels of absorption to choose from, depending on the severity of the incontinence being suffered. For those suffering with mild incontinence, pads and pants can be used discreetly, allowing that person to go about their daily lives in comfort and without any other person knowing what they are going through. This offers great peace of mind to many people.

In more severe cases of incontinence, it might be required for chair and bed protectors to offer extra absorbency at night or throughout the day and evening when a person is sat in a chair. The idea is to protect the furniture and mattress from the effects of incontinence and allow a smoother operation to clean an area and make sure a person remains hygienic at all times. Sensor mats and alarms at night can be used to alert a caring assistant that incontinence issues must be dealt with immediately.

Incontinence pads and other types of incontinence products are used efficiently within the rehabilitation process for many different types of illnesses and long-term conditions. Whether a younger person has suffered an accident and is in the process of regaining mobility, or an older person is coming to terms with a life-changing condition that will mean the use of incontinence products on a permanent basis, or anything else in between, the correct use of incontinence pads and products can go a long way to improving the quality of life of the person using them.
